From an article over at the LA times, it appears that some suspicious cargo was seized today at LAX. What did the cargo contain? Escargot. Well, 67 giant African snails to be exact. In case you're unfamiliar with what giant African snails look like, here's a reminder:
According to the article, the snails were seized by federal authorities and were being transported in two large picnic baskets en route to the US from Nigeria. The sum total of the 67 snails was over 35 pounds, which means each snail was coming in at over half a pound! Apparently they are deep fried and served as a snack - not sure if this is the first thing that would come to mind when I'm thinking of snacking.
If anyone was expecting to receive their shipment of African snails, looks like you'll need to head over to LAX with a pretty darn good explanation in order to get them back.
